Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his position on Monday.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday stepped down from the second-highest office of the country, citing health reasons, effective immediately.
Dhankhar, who is also the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, said that he wants to “abide by medical advice” and cited prioritising health as the reason behind his sudden resignation.
“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution. I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency – the Hon’ble President of India for her unwavering support and the soothing wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure,” Dhankhar said in a letter addressed to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.

He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for cooperation.
Dhankhar recalled his memories with the Parliamentarians and said that he would cherish them.
“I express my deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the esteemed Council of Ministers. Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office. The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all the Hon’ble Members of Parliament would ever be cherished at and embedded in my memory. I am deeply thankful for the invaluable experiences and insights I have gained as Vice President in our great democracy,” he wrote.
Dhankhar presided over the Rajya Sabha as the Chairman on the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament and addressed the House at length over the impeachment of High Court judge Yashwant Sinha.
Sources speaking to News18 said the Vice President arrived at Rashtrapati Bhavan on short notice, without any prior appointment, and submitted his resignation to the President in the evening.
