Kamal Kaur, widely known as Kamal kaur ‘bhabhi’a well-known social media influencer in Punjab, was found dead inside her car in the parking lot of Adesh Medical University in Bathinda on Wednesday. The vehicle, registered in Ludhiana, was noticed by locals due to a foul odour emanating from it, sparking a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Authorities have launched a probe after initial findings hinted at some suspicious elements, with police officials describing the situation as “fishy” and withholding further details pending investigation.
WHO WAS KAMAL KAUR?
Kaur, a resident of Ludhiana, had more than 3.8 lakh followers on social media. She often shared videos and pictures that challenged traditional and conservative cultural norms in Punjab. Her content was sometimes seen as explicit or inappropriate by sections of society, leading to debates about morality and decency online.
A report in The Tribune said Kaur’s real name was Kanchan Kumari and she was believed to be in her mid-30s. The report added that in October last year, Kaur had received threats from Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Arsh Dalla who asked her to stop posting inappropriate videos.
News18 Punjab had reported in October 2024 that Dalla, in an audio recording, was heard saying that Kaur shares inappropriate content on social media, threatening to kill one of her family members unless she removed her videos.
Dalla, a designated terrorist in India, is a close aide of slain Khalistan separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.
Speaking to the media, Bathinda SP (City) Narinder Singh said, “Prima facie, it appears someone abandoned the car here after committing the crime. The post-mortem report will provide clarity. The car appears to bear fake registration number plates, and we are seeking details from the transport authorities.”
In her last Instagram post, the influencer wrote: “No emotion, no love, no f*ck. Bachia hoya taan bas shakk shakk shakk (what’s left is just doubt, doubt and doubt).”
