As the new BJYM president, Joshi will be tasked with strengthening the BJP’s connection with India’s younger population.

His journey in public service is grounded in a deep connection to Vadodara.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled his new core team with appointing 35-year-old Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi as the new national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), replacing Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya.
Joshi’s appointment was part of party chief Nitin Nabin’s new national office-bearer team. The reshuffle also saw former Union Minister Smriti Irani return to the party’s central organisation as a national general secretary.
His appointment comes at a time when political parties are seeking to strengthen their engagement with younger voters, amid changing forms of youth mobilisation and the growing influence of digital platforms. For him, the national assignment marks a rapid rise through the BJP organisation. The Vadodara MP had served as president of the Gujarat BJP Yuva Morcha before being elevated to the national post.
Who Is Hemang Joshi?
Born on January 31, 1991 in Porbandar, Joshi is a physiotherapy graduate associated with Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He remained associated with the university from 2008 all the way through 2021. He entered politics through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the BJP’s student organisation, and joined the BJP as an active worker in 2013.
Joshi has since held several organisational responsibilities in Gujarat and steadily risen through the party ranks.
Joshi’s first major electoral assignment came in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, when the BJP fielded him from Vadodara. He won the seat, giving him an electoral base alongside his organisational experience.
Before entering Parliament, his association with Vadodara had also extended to civic administration. In January 2022, he was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s School Committee.
After becoming an MP in 2024, he was the sole Gujarat MP included in the delegation sent abroad following Operation Sindoor in May 2025. He was subsequently appointed in-charge of Gujarat’s Special Investment Region before taking charge as president of the Gujarat BJP Yuva Morcha in December 2025.
His performance as the state youth wing chief eventually paved the way for his elevation to the national post.
Why Hemnag Joshi For BJYM Chief?
During his tenure in Gujarat, Joshi experimented with technology-driven organisational outreach, including a large-scale digital meeting that reportedly drew the attention of senior BJP leaders Amit Shah and BL Santhosh.
He also established a “Digital MP Office” in Vadodara, an initiative that helped build his profile as a technology-friendly young politician.
Party sources describe Joshi as educated, soft-spoken and relatively free of major controversies. His ability to communicate in Gujarati, Hindi and English is also expected to help him connect with young voters across different parts of the country.
Joshi also came into the national spotlight following the Parliament scuffle involving BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He was among the BJP MPs, along with Bansuri Swaraj and Anurag Thakur, who complained to the police over the incident.
What Is His New Challenge?
As the new BJYM president, Joshi will be tasked with strengthening the BJP’s connection with India’s younger population.
The challenge comes at a time when Gen Z political participation is increasingly influenced by social media, digital platforms, social issues and changing economic and career aspirations.
Joshi now has to take his organisational experience from Gujarat to a nationwide platform and build a youth network that can respond to the changing expectations of a younger electorate.
Tejasvi Surya Pens Note
The Bengaluru South MP expressed gratitude to the party’s top leadership and BJYM workers as he reflected on his 14-year journey with the youth wing and congratulated Hemang Joshi on taking over the leadership.
In a post on X, Surya recalled beginning his BJYM journey as a grassroots worker in the city unit, saying he had never imagined that the journey would eventually take him to the position of National President.
“14 years ago, I began my BJYM journey as a karyakarta of the city unit. That it would take me all the way to National President was something I never ever imagined,” Surya said.
He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former BJP national president JP Nadda and BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh.
Under Nitin Nabin, the party has entrusted key responsibilities to a new set of General Secretaries, including former Amethi MP Smriti Irani, former Tripura CM Biplab Deb, Sunil Bansal, Vinod Tawde, Gajendra Patel, Satish Poonia, Harish Dwivedi, and Sanjay Bhatia.
