Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has stirred a debate by claiming that that the Hinjewadi IT Park in Pune is slowly “moving out” of the state and is shifting to other IT cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

The deputy CM made the remark during an early morning inspection of civic issues in Pimpri Chinchwad on Saturday. In a video shared by news agency PTIPawar is seen expressing his frustration while interacting with people.

“We are ruined. The entire IT park of Hinjewadi is moving out. It’s going out of my Pune, out of Maharashtra to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, don’t you care at all?” fumed Pawar while confronting local Sarpanch Ganesh Jambhulkar during a public interaction.

Pawar reached Hinjewadi at 6 AM to take stock of local issues like waterlogging and others. He also visited several areas in Pimpri Chinchwad.

The heated exchange unfolded as Jambhulkar raised complaints about local problems in the presence of the media. Pawar reportedly asked media personnel to switch off their cameras and said, “Temples are displaced when dams are constructed. You can say whatever you want, I’ll listen, but I will do what I want to.”

“Why do I come here for inspections at 6 in the morning? I don’t understand. There’s no alternative but to take strict action,” he added as quoted by the news agency.

Hinjewadi IT Park

Hinjewadi is home to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, a major tech and business zone spread over 2,800 acres. It was developed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and has offices of over 800 companies.

Many people believe this park helped put Pune on the map as a major IT hub. If companies start shifting out, it could be a big blow to Maharashtra’s economy and jobs.
