Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief Vijay, who made an explosive debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026, met state governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and staked a claim to form a government.

The TVK secured 108 in the 234-member legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu, ending the duopoly of the DMK and the AIADMK. However, the party fell short of the majority mark, which stands at 118.

The Congress — which won five seats — has announced its decision to support the TVK, taking the total seat tally to 113.

During the meeting with the governor, Vijay submitted a detailed letter consisting of the signatures of 108 MLAs who backed him as their choice as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, sources told CNN-News18.

The letter also sought to explain the number game, highlighting the MLAs’ support towards the TVK needed to form a government in the state.

According to sources, Vijay urged Governor Arlekar to allow him to take an oath as the Chief Minister at 10 A.M. tomorrow, May 7.

The TVK Chief noted that the party has enough support to prove the mandate during floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

MK Stalin, DMK Chief who lost to TVK’s VS Babu in Kolathur, has already submitted his resignation as the Chief Minister.
