Just three months ago, world champion and Asiad superstar shooter Jaspal Rana passed away at the age of 49 and there was a wave of mourning in the entire Indian sports world. Rana was the first superstar of Indian shooting. In the 1994 World Shooting Championship in Italy (Milan), Rana won gold in 25 meter standard pistol with a world record score and shooting sport got recognition in every Indian household. As a player, Rana won 8 medals including 4 gold in the Asiad and 15 medals including 9 gold in the Commonwealth Games. His sport was not a part of the Olympic Games, otherwise this story could have been different.
