MP Government on CBI: Following the example of states like West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh has now made it mandatory that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will have to seek permission from the state government before conducting any investigation within its boundary area. The state government has also issued a notification for this. According to the notification, the CBI will need to obtain written consent from the state government before starting any inquiry. This order has come into effect from July 1. This was informed through Home Department Secretary Gaurav Rajput. This direction means that the CBI will need to obtain explicit permission from the state government before investigating any private person, government officials or other entities within Madhya Pradesh. According to Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946, the CBI requires consent from the respective state governments to conduct investigations.
