MCD’s action to remove encroachment at midnight in Turkman Gate area of Delhi increased the tension. During this action, which started around Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque near Ramlila Maidan, the protest turned violent, in which stones were pelted at the police and in response, lathi charge and tear gas had to be used. Five policemen were injured, while the police have detained five people. MCD had taken this step on the orders of the High Court, in which instructions were given to remove the illegal structures adjacent to the mosque.
