Srinagar/Budgam: As soon as schools and colleges opened in Kashmir on Monday after the Eid holidays, a different picture was seen in the valley. Afreen, a 20-year-old college student, came to an Imambara in Budgam to be a part of the ongoing donation campaign in support of Iran before leaving for her studies. Amidst the ongoing fierce conflict in West Asia, Afrin and his family donated cash and valuables to help Iran. Along with the echo of prayers for Iran, the process of donations is also continuing in the Imambaras located in different areas of the valley. Cash, cheques, gold-silver, copper utensils, Kashmiri shawls and other valuable items are reaching the collection centers in large numbers. This campaign is not limited to just financial help, but also reflects the emotional, religious and political solidarity of the Shia community.
Afrin says, “When we say that our lives are sacrificed for ‘Rahbar’ (Ayatollah Khamenei), then it becomes our duty to contribute to his mission. I donated the little savings I had. One of my friends also gave her gold.”
Women and children are also playing a role
An elderly woman arrived at a collection center in Budgam with gold ornaments, the last memento of her late husband. This woman, who lost her husband 28 years ago, said with tears that she could not control herself and donated her most precious things to help Iran.
The ‘Eidi’ given to children on the occasion of Eid also became a part of this campaign. Many children were seen donating their piggy banks and Eid gifts. This contribution made with small hands and with great passion is making the entire atmosphere emotional.

Earrings, bangles, gold coins, rings of various designs, huge amount of cash and countless currency notes are deposited at the donation centres. Donors say that they consider it not just a help but a part of protecting their religion and Islam. Many people also expressed regret that in the current situation, Iran is not getting open support from any Muslim country.
Ajaz Hussain says, “We are making this donation for Islam. It is our duty to protect the religion which has been attacked by Israel and America. When Iran is fighting to save its religion, the silence of Muslim countries is very unfortunate.”
