In a shocking incident, six people died on Sunday due to a stampede after a huge crowd gathered at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar.
Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey confirmed the deaths.
“I am leaving for the spot. A detailed report of the incident is awaited,” Vinay Shankar Pandey told ANI.
Visuals from the scene showed the injured being transported to the hospital in ambulances.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences and said that SDRF, local police, and other rescue teams have reached the site. Dhami also announced the financial aid of 2 lakh to the kin of the deceased and fifty thousand to the injured.
“It is extremely distressing to receive news of a stampede on the route to the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar. SFRF, local police, and other rescue teams have reached the site and are engaged in relief and rescue operations,” he said in a post on X.
“I am in constant contact with the local administration regarding this matter, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to Mother Goddess for the safety and well-being of all devotees,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expresses condolences following the loss of lives due to a stampede on the route to the Mansa Devi Temple.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede on the route to Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is assisting those affected,” PM said in a post on X.
