US Senate Confirms Sergio Gor As Next Ambassador To India

Sergio Gor, a close aide of Donald Trump, is confirmed as US Ambassador to India.

The US Senate confirmed Sergio Gor as the next Ambassador of the United States to India, making one of Donald Trump’s closest aides the new face of Washington’s diplomacy in New Delhi. Sergio Gor, 38, was among 107 nominees confirmed by the US Senate in an en bloc vote, with 51 senators voting in favour and 47 against.

Who Is Sergio Gor?

Sergio Gor has been a longtime Republican strategist, fundraiser and political aide closely associated with Donald Trump. In August, Donald Trump nominated him to serve as both US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

Describing Sergio Gor as “a great friend who has been at my side for many years,” Donald Trump earlier said, “For the most populous region in the world, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my agenda and help us Make America Great Again. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador.”

Before his nomination, Sergio Gor served as Director of Presidential Personnel in the Donald Trump administration and played key roles in the US President’s campaign and transition teams.

Sergio Gor’s Vision For US-India Partnership

At his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Sergio Gor described India as a “strategic partner whose trajectory will shape the region and beyond.”

“Improving US-India trade ties will not only bolster US competitiveness but also reduce China’s economic leverage over other nations,” Sergio Gor told lawmakers. He also highlighted India’s growing role in maintaining stability across South Asia, asserting, “A stable South Asia is in the interest of the United States and all the nations. India’s role in ensuring regional stability and security cannot be understated.”

Sergio Gor pledged to deepen defence, trade and technology ties with New Delhi, calling the relationship one that “will define the 21st century.”
