US-Israel-Iran War News Today Live Updates: U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that negotiations with Iran could yield a breakthrough “over the weekend”, adding the talks were going “very well” despite the renewed hostilities in West Asia.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said: “I hear the negotiation itself is going very well, actually. It could happen … over the weekend.”
However, Trump privately told his aides that he did not intend to resume a full-scale war with Iran unless Tehran killed American troops, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
The developments came as fresh escalation in West Asia threatened an already-fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, with missiles and drones targeting key U.S. facilities and infrastructure in the region.
Iran Says No ‘Tangible Progress’
Despite Trump expressing optimism over the negotiations to end the conflict, Iran said there was no “tangible” progress in the talks.
“Communications with the Americans have not been cut off, and messages have been exchanged regarding the need to stop aggression against Beirut, but no tangible progress has been made in the negotiation process,” Araghchi told Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen TVas per Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
Araghchi warned any Israeli attack on Lebanon would trigger a “full-scale resumption” of the conflict.
“Our armed forces are ready to strike Israel if it attacks Beirut,” he said, AFP reported.
What’s Happening On The Lebanese Front?
After two days of extensive trilateral talks hosted by Washington, Israel and Lebanon have agreed to implement a ceasefire, though the truce remains conditional on a complete halt to Hezbollah attacks and the withdrawal of all Hezbollah operatives from the area south of the Litani River.
Under the framework, Israel and Lebanon agreed to swiftly establish pilot security zones where the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) will exercise exclusive control, with all non-state armed groups excluded from operating in the area.
