Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Sunday inaugurated ten new flights from Hindon Airport alongside BJP MP Atul Garg.

The flights were launched by Indigo to Bengaluru, Kolkata, Varanasi, Goa, Patna, Indore, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Chennai. Till now, around 14 flights have been operated from Hindon Terminal. With Sunday’s new flights, the number has increased to 23.

“Inaugurated 10 new flights from Hindon Airport today, alongside Hon’ble MP of Ghaziabad, Shri @Atulgargbjp Ji. Congratulations to IndiGo for commencing its operations from Hindon. Starting today, @IndiGo6E will operate direct flights connecting Hindon with Bengaluru, Chennai, Goa, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna and Varanasi, along with two new routes to Ahmedabad and Indore,” he wrote on X.

This marks a significant step towards strengthening air connectivity for the Delhi NCR region, offering convenient travel options for Ghaziabad, Noida, East and Central Delhi and parts of Western Uttar Pradesh.

Naidu said, “Until February, air services were operated by small flight operators from Hindon Airport. At that time, it seemed that Hindon Civil Terminal was a backup airport of Delhi. Hindon Civil Terminal is now moving towards becoming the backbone airport of Delhi rather than a backup airport,” Naidu said.

The Union Minister stated that Air India flights from the airport, which commenced operations in March, have consistently achieved over 90% occupancy, prompting the ministry to consider further expansion.

“We are trying to start air services from Hindon Civil Terminal to various cities of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Kanpur. The number of passengers has increased at Hindon Airport, so now it is being considered to expand the facilities of the airport,” he said. He, however, added that expansion of the airport would need at least nine acres of land.

Hindon Airport was developed in 2019 under the visionary UDAN scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, transforming an unserved airport into a promising Civil Enclave.

Since then, aircraft movements at Hindon have increased by more than 10 times, and passenger traffic has also seen a tenfold rise to over 80,000 annual travellers, Naidu wrote on X.

“With the growing connectivity and rising passenger footfall, we are now working towards the expansion of the passenger capacity at Hindon,” he added.
