‘I’m flying the flag for British business in Mumbai, because growth in India for British businesses means more jobs for people at home,’ says UK PM Keir Starmer in a post on X.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who flew in from London along with the largest-ever business delegation, was greeted at the Mumbai airport by Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, along with CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday on his first official visit to India, accompanied by the largest-ever trade delegation from the UK. Starmer said growth in India for British businesses “means more jobs for people at home”.
In a post on X, Starmer on Wednesday said, “I’m flying the flag for British business in Mumbai, because growth in India for British businesses means more jobs for people at home.”

The British prime minister also interacted with business leaders here in the financial capital on Wednesday.
Starmer, who flew in from London along with a business delegation, was greeted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and state Governor Acharya Devvrat.
Upon his arrival in India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said in a post on X that the UK PM’s visit marks a new chapter in the strong and dynamic India-UK partnership.
“A warm welcome to PM @Keir_Starmer of the United Kingdom! Received by Governor of Maharashtra and Gujarat Mr. Acharya Devvrat @maha_governor at the airport. This is PM Starmer’s first visit to India. This visit marks a new chapter in our strong & dynamic India-UK partnership,” the ministry said.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed his British counterpart, calling it a “historic first visit” and expressing optimism about advancing the bilateral relationship.
PM Modi and Starmer will meet in Mumbai on Thursday as part of the process to strengthen the India-UK strategic partnership. They will attend the CEO Forum and the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in the city.
“Welcome Prime Minister Keir Starmer on your historic first visit to India with the largest ever trade delegation from the UK. Looking forward to our meeting tomorrow for advancing our shared vision of a stronger, mutually prosperous future,” Modi posted on X.

During their meeting, Modi and Starmer will take stock of the progress in diverse aspects of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in line with the Vision 2035′ roadmap of initiatives in trade and investment, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate and energy, health, education and people to people relations.
Starmer’s visit is expected to focus on boosting trade, investment, clean energy collaboration, and education partnerships.
Both the leaders will engage with businesses and industry leaders on opportunities presented by the India UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement as a central pillar of the future India UK economic partnership.
