A Delhi court on Saturday directed Delhi Police to file a new status report in the case related to 11 leaders including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. This case is related to the demonstration organized by DMK at Jantar Mantar in February 2025 against the UGC draft regulation. The court has expressed displeasure over the previous police report. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Pawar said that the status report filed by the police appeared to be filed mechanically and the main questions were not answered in it. In this case, apart from Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, a case has been registered against a total of 11 leaders including DMK MP Kanimozhi and A Raja. It is alleged that these leaders had participated in the demonstration at Jantar Mantar against the UGC draft regulation. Court asked – Why section 223(a) of BNS was imposed on the accused? On February 19, the court had sought a status report from Delhi Police and had asked that when the protest took place at a designated venue like Jantar Mantar, then why section 223(a) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) (not following government orders) was imposed on all the accused. Commenting on the report filed on Saturday, the court said that as per records the protest took place in an exempted area, but no clear reason was given in the police response on the issue. The court also said that the investigating officer (IO) has not given any timeline to complete the further investigation. According to the court, the application was filed demanding further investigation without any new facts or evidence. Court said – Why notices were not sent to the accused? The judge also raised the question as to why notices were not sent to the accused to join the investigation. The court said that this is not only a case of omission in sending the information, but also the non-completion of legal process by the investigating officer, SHO and the concerned ACP is serious. The court said that the demand for further investigation will be considered only after getting clear answers to the questions raised earlier. The next hearing of the case has been fixed for March 19. ————————————————————- Also read this news… Rahul said – If he had not been a leader, he would have been an aerospace businessman, praised China and said – its industrial production system is unmatched.
