The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to conduct the UGC-NET June 2026 examinations for English, Commerce and Sociology again after several issues were reported in the question papers.

In a post on X, the NTA said a committee reviewed complaints received from candidates and found “substantive issues” in the three papers. The problems included factual and typographical mistakes, translation errors, missing names of prominent scholars, garbled book titles and flaws in the wording of questions.

The review committee also pointed to grammatical and numerical errors, unclear options, non-standard terminology for established concepts and repetition of questions or answer choices. According to the NTA, these problems could not be resolved simply by removing the affected questions after the examination.

When Was The UGC-NET June 2026 Exam Held?

The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from June 22 to June 30, 2026, with papers scheduled across different shifts and subjects.

The examination covered 85 subjects and was conducted to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor positions and PhD admissions.

UGC-NET Re-Exam Dates 2026

The three affected papers will now be conducted on the following dates:

English: September 9, 2026, from 9 AM to 12 PM

Commerce: September 9, 2026, from 3 PM to 6 PM

Sociology: September 10, 2026, from 9 AM to 12 PM

The NTA said candidates appearing for these papers will not have to pay an additional examination fee. Details regarding examination centres and admit cards will be shared separately through the official website.

UGC-NET Re-Exam: What About Results For Other Subjects?

The results for the remaining 84 subjects will be declared as scheduled, the NTA said. The re-conduct of the English, Commerce and Sociology papers will not affect the results of these subjects.

For the three re-conducted papers, the number of candidates qualifying for Assistant Professor and JRF eligibility will continue to be equivalent to 6% of the candidates who appear in the respective re-examination.

The NTA also said subject-wise and category-wise allocation for JRF, Assistant Professor eligibility and PhD admission would be carried out according to the prescribed rules.

Candidates have been advised to rely only on the official NTA and UGC-NET websites and official communications for further updates.
