UCL: Liverpool Turn The Tables On Galatasaray At Anfield As Szoboszlai, Salah Lead Fightback

Domnik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah all got on the scoresheet against the side from Istanbul as Liverpool overturned a first leg lead.

English champions Liverpool completed a remarkable turnaround with their 4-0 win over Galatasaray in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Thursday to flip the script after the Turkish giants’ 1-0 first leg win.

Domnik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah all got on the scoresheet against the side from Istanbul to move into the quarterfinal of the continental competition, where they are set to take on defending UCL champions PSG.

Szoboszlai opened the scoring on the day in the 25th minute of the game to cancel out Galatasary’s lead as he got on the end of an Alexis Mac Allister pass. Liverpool had a chance to turn the game around in the first half, but Salah missed from the spot as both teams remained level on aggregate heading into the break.

Salah, however, made amends in the second part of the game as he set up both Ekitike and Graveberch in a matter of minutes to take the game away from the Turkish side, before getting his name up on the scoresheet just past the hour mark.

“We could (have) won 10-0, but we did a good job. We can be proud,” said Ekitike, who is set to face his former club PSG in the last-eight clash.

Elsewhere, German heavyweights Bayern Munich secured their place in the quarterfinals with a dominant 4-1 victory over Italian team Atalanta, while Spanish champions Barcelona routed Newcastle 7-2.

Harry Kane scored twice, while Lennart Karl and Luis Diaz each added a goal, bringing the aggregate score to 10-2. The Bavarian giants are set to face record UCL winners Real Madrid, who defeated English giants Manchester City, for a spot in the semifinals. Vincent Kompany will be aiming for a major upset.

Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha netted a brace each, while Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez and Marc Bernal all struck a goal apiece in the decimation job.
