Twisha Sharma Death Case: The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the case pertaining to model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma, who was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal last week, and listed it for a hearing on May 25.

A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul M Pancholi will hear the case on May 25. The case has been listed under the title ‘Alleged institutional bias and procedural discrepancies in the unnatural death of a young girl at her matrimonial home’.

The death of Twisha Sharma, 33, a native of Noida, at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills sent shockwaves through the country and sparked a furious debate on dowry practices in India.

While her in-laws have alleged that she was struggling with drug addiction, her family has accused them of harassing her for dowry, claiming it drove her to death. The Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a CBI probe into the case.

Twisha’s Husband Taken Into Custody

Twisha’s family has repeatedly claimed that Samarth Singh and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, also used their influence to delay action in the case. Samarth Singh was surrendered before Jabalpur police on Friday after being on the run for at least 10 days.

A Bhopal court sent him to seven-day police custody in connection with her alleged dowry death case. Police officials said Singh was taken to the Katara Hills police station around 2 am after his arrest outside the Jabalpur court premises.

Police have also issued a third and final notice to Giribala Singh after she allegedly failed to appear for questioning. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has also issued a notice to her, seeking a response by May 25 on petitions challenging the anticipatory bail granted by a Bhopal court.
