Trump had hinted at the possibility of seeking a third term as US President

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he will “probably” not run for the White House.
Trump’s remark came during his interview with CNBC in which he threatened to raise tariffs on Indian goods from 25%.
Earlier, Trump had hinted at the possibility of seeking a third term as US President. However, the US Constitution does now allow any person to serve as US President for more than two terms.
During an interview with NBC News in March, Trump claimed that “there are methods” through which he can become the US president for the third time and emphasised that he was “not joking.”
“A lot of people want me to do it. But … my thinking is, we have a long way to go. I’m focused on the current,” Trump had said.
Trump has frequently teased a third term, saying at a rally in Nevada in January that “it will be the greatest honour of my life to serve, not once but twice or three times or four times,” apparently joking. He later clarified: “No, it will be to serve twice. For the next four years, I will not rest.”
Trump, who was elected in November 2025 for his second term, will be the oldest person to ever hold the presidency at 82 years and 7 months old in January 2029.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only U.S. president in America’s history to serve for four terms. Six years after his death, the 22nd Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified on February 27, 1951, which now limits presidents to two elected terms.
