US President Donald Trump spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the evolving situation in West Asia, with both leaders emphasising the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open amid escalating tensions in the region.
The update was shared by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, who said the two leaders reviewed the ongoing crisis and its broader implications, particularly for global energy supply and maritime security.
“The leaders discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open,” the envoy said in a statement.

Confirming the conversation, Prime Minister Modi said the two leaders had a “useful exchange of views” and agreed on the need for peace and stability in the region.
“Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest,” Modi said in a post.

He further stressed the global importance of the key maritime route, adding, “Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world.”
Modi also said that both sides agreed to remain in touch regarding ongoing efforts towards peace and stability.
The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but critical waterway, is one of the world’s most vital oil transit routes, through which 20 per cent of global crude shipments pass. Any disruption in the region could have far-reaching consequences for energy markets and economies worldwide, including India.
The conversation comes at a time when tensions in West Asia have sharply escalated, raising concerns over the safety of commercial shipping and the stability of supply chains.
India, which relies heavily on energy imports from the Gulf, has been closely monitoring developments in the region. The government has already initiated contingency planning to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fuel and essential commodities.
Both sides are understood to have stressed the need for stability in the region and the importance of safeguarding key maritime routes.
The call highlights growing coordination between India and the United States as the geopolitical situation continues to evolve, with global attention focused on the Strait of Hormuz as a potential flashpoint.
