Tripura Woman Allegedly Gang-Raped By 5 Manipur Students Of Same University; Two Detained

A 21-year-old Tripura woman was allegedly gang-raped by five Manipur students studying at the same university. The incident took place in Assam’s Guwahati on September 13.

Reportedly, all five of the accused are minors, and the officials have already detained two, while an interrogation of the others continues.

The alleged incident reportedly took place during a house party. While the accused was living in a rented flat, the police were still trying to determine who the property belonged to.

In her complaint, the victim alleged that the incident took place while she was attending a house party on the seventh floor of a private building with several teenagers.

Following the party, the woman went to her room, which was located next to where the party was happening. She was gang-raped under the influence of alcohol and only realised what had happened after she woke up the next morning.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Guwahati), Amitav Basumatary, quoted by the Hindustan Times, “The girl lodged a first information report (FIR) at Guwahati’s Pani Khaity outpost on Tuesday, and we picked up the five accused, all minors. Two of them have been apprehended, and the other three are being questioned.”

“We launched an investigation that led to the identification of the five accused. We found evidence against two of them, and they were detained on Tuesday. Since they are minors, they were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board,” the official added.

A case has been filed under Section 125/25 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita under sections 70(1) and 3(5) at the Pragjyotishpur police station.
