Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday alleged that Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Ravneet Singh Bittu “assaulted” its female MPs in the Lok Sabha. TMC Lok Sabha MP Mitali Bagh while speaking to ANI alleged: “While we were protesting against the bill, Union Ministers Ravneet Singh Bittu and Kiren Rijiju attacked me, they pushed me…This is condemnable…”
The scenes unfolded when Home Minister Amit Shah tabled three bills proposing removal of the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers jailed for 30 consecutive days in the Lok Sabha.
When Amit Shah the bills, opposition protested calling the legislations “draconian” and raised slogans.
Sources speaking to CNN-News18 claimed no evidence, including the CCTV footage supports allegations of TMC MPs being pushed by ruling party members Kiren Rijiju and Ravneet Singh Bittu.
“No footage has surfaced to suggest that ruling party MPs pushed the Trinamool MPs,” the sources said.
BJP MP Ravneet Singh Bittu strongly rejected the charge, saying: “It is not my culture to push anyone. I want to ask the TMC, who is teaching them all this? Is it Mamata Banerjee?”
“My family has laid down their life for the country, and I don’t belong to such a political ideology where women have to be disrespected,” he said while speaking to CNN-News18.
Issuing a challenge, Bittu said: “I challenge the TMC to come and fight me outside Parliament, and I am sure they will not be able to win.”
What Bills Were Being Tabled
The three bills in question are the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill and the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill. The legislations seek to create a framework under which Chief Ministers in states and Union territories, as well as Union ministers and the Prime Minister, could face removal if they remain in jail for 30 consecutive days.
