- Former TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev Prakash Chik Sukhendu Sekhar joins BJP

Three former Rajya Sabha MPs from Trinamool Congress (TMC) Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Shekhar Rai and Prakash Chik Baraik joined the BJP on Thursday. State President Samik Bhattacharya got membership of all three in Kolkata.
After TMC’s defeat in the West Bengal assembly elections, the three leaders had resigned from Rajya Sabha membership and TMC. Sukhendu Shekhar had resigned on June 8, Sushmita Dev on June 10 and Prakash Chik on June 11.
Voting and counting will take place on July 24 for the by-elections on these three Rajya Sabha seats of West Bengal. Notification for by-election will be released on July 7. Nominations till 14th July and scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on 15th July.

Mamta now has 22 MLAs and 17 MPs left.
TMC had a total of 28 Lok Sabha MPs, out of which 20 have defected. Now Mamata has only 8 MPs left in the Lok Sabha. Talking about Rajya Sabha, 4 out of 13 MPs have resigned i.e. only 9 Rajya Sabha MPs are left.
Talking about the Assembly, TMC had won 80 seats in this election. Out of these, 58 MLAs have formed separate groups. Mamta has only 22 MLAs left.


A separate party gets recognition when it has two-thirds members.
A 10-member delegation of the rebel group had met Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on July 2 and demanded recognition of itself as the real TMC. He had informed the Election Commission about the organizational changes in the party and the new National Executive (NWC).
