Due to shortage of LPG, long lines are being seen outside gas agencies across the country.
If you have a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection in your house, now you will have to surrender your LPG cylinder. Amidst the deepening gas crisis in the country, the Petroleum Ministry has made major changes in the supply rules.
According to the new order, PNG users will neither get a new LPG connection nor will the old cylinder be refilled. Earlier, the government has issued new rules regarding supply thrice in 9 days.

4 new rules for supply of LPG
- Now it will be illegal to have both PNG (piped gas) and LPG (cylinder) connections in one house.
- Those who have active PNG connection will no longer be able to refill (book) their LPG cylinder.
- Those who have both the facilities will have to surrender their domestic LPG connection to the department immediately.
- Piped Gas (PNG) consumers will no longer be able to apply for new domestic LPG connections.
LPG cylinder booking rules changed thrice
6 March: The lock-in period for domestic LPG booking has been made 21 days. March 9: Due to increase in demand, the lock-in period in cities was increased to 25 days. 12 March: The gap for booking cylinders in rural areas was made 45 days.

Legal action may be taken if connection is not surrendered
The new rules have come into effect with immediate effect. The government wants those who have the option of PNG to give up the cylinder so that the cylinder can reach those who have no other option.
In the notification issued on Saturday, it was said that those who have both the connections should immediately go to the nearest LPG distributor or company’s portal and surrender the connection. There will be no penalty for surrender, but legal action may be taken for breaking the rules.
