“The operation this time will be different. It will be different from the surgical strikes and the air strikes. Those who have carried out this terror attack, they may hide in any corner of the world…we will not spare them or the masterminds” – this is what Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said at a Union Cabinet meeting soon after Pahalgam terror attack last April.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has revealed this in his book titled ‘Apnapan – Narendra Modi Sang Mere Anubhav’ which will be released on Tuesday.
True to the PM’s words at this Cabinet meeting on April 30, 2025, the Indian armed forces carried out ‘Operation Sindoor’ inside Pakistan between May 7 and 10 last year, targeting terror headquarters as well as Pakistan military infrastructure. This was a major escalation in the Indian response after the surgical strikes post Uri terror attack and the Balakot air strikes post the Pahalgam terror attack in 2019.
Chouhan writes that when PM Modi walked into the Cabinet meeting room after the Pahalgam terror attack, there was no sign of anger and disturbance on his face. “Modi was a picture of stability and patience. He did not show any panic, nor any rush to take a decision in haste. He looked completely calm but full of firm resolve,” Chouhan had written in the book, quoting his observations as he was present in the room.
The PM then went on to tell his cabinet colleagues of the kind of response he envisaged.
“These were not words said in anger but with a firm resolve and showed strong leadership. The dastardly terror attack in Pahalgam had shaken the entire world. In such a situation, to keep control over his pain and rage, keep India’s position before the world effectively with reasoning – this is not an ordinary thing,” the Union Agriculture Minister has written.
The Prime Minister was in Saudi Arabia on an official trip when the Pahalgam terror attack happened and he had cut short his trip to return to India the next morning.
Chouhan writes that the PM’s words at the Cabinet meeting showed how he carried the responsibility of 140 crore Indian on his shoulders.
