The extradition action to bring fugitive diamond businessman Mehul Choksi from Belgium to India will begin on Monday (September 15). This information has been given by news agency PTI. Choksi is accused of fraudulent ₹ 13,850 crore with Punjab National Bank.

The case will be heard in the Belgian Federal Court, in which the CBI CBI and the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) will present their case from India. Three days ago, India has given written guarantee to Belgium. The Center told the Belgian government in a letter that Choksi would be placed in Barrack No-12 of Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai. There is the ability of 6 people to live in a closet.

The letter said that if Choksi is brought to India from Belgium, he will be treated humanitarian. He is assured to provide more than 14 facilities. In this, 24 hours medical care, clean water, good food and specialist doctor’s facility.

CBI-If the Ministry of External Affairs is unable to provide evidence, Choksi may be released

Although Choksi’s lawyer termed his arrest as illegal and sought bail, but the court rejected. He is citing health problems, but India says that treatment can also be done in India. If the court agrees with India’s evidence, Choksi can be sent to India.

Choksi was arrested in Belgium on 12 April

On the appeal of extradition of Indian investigative agencies, Choksi was arrested on 12 April in Belgium. He and his nephew Nirav Modi are the main accused in the PNB fraud case. The fugitive Nirav is in London. Efforts are also on for his extradition. Both left India in 2018.
