Reliance Industries owner Mukesh Ambani is preparing to launch his telecom company ‘Reliance Jio Platforms’ in the stock market. According to Reuters report, the company may launch its IPO this year, in which 2.5% stake can be sold.

If this happens, it will be the largest IPO in the history of India, whose value could be more than $ 4 billion (about Rs 37,000 crore). Jio currently has more than 50 crore users and it is eagerly awaited in the market.

Jio will leave Hyundai behind in valuation

Investment bank Jefferies had estimated Jio’s valuation at around $180 billion (Rs 16 lakh crore) in November last year. However, now some bankers are estimating its valuation to be $200 billion to $240 billion (about Rs 20 lakh crore). According to this valuation, even by selling 2.5% stake, Jio will leave behind Hyundai Motor India’s ₹ 27,000 crore IPO last year.

Reliance Industries Chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani had indicated in August last year that Jio's listing could happen in the first half of 2026.

Waiting for rules to change, preparing to sell 2.5% shares

Market regulator SEBI has proposed to change the rules for big companies, in which they can get the freedom to sell a minimum 2.5% stake at the time of IPO instead of 5%. Reliance is currently waiting for this rule to be approved by the Finance Ministry. Sources say that the company wants to sell less stake so that the demand for shares remains in the market.

Morgan Stanley and Kotak Mahindra are working on bank draft

The banks have not been formally appointed yet, but according to sources, officials of Morgan Stanley and Kotak Mahindra Bank have started working with Reliance to prepare the IPO papers (DRHP). Mukesh Ambani had hinted in August last year that Jio’s listing could happen in the first half of 2026. However, the final decision will be taken after looking at the market conditions.

Foreign investors may get a chance to exit

In the last 6 years, Reliance Jio has raised funds from big global investors like KKR, Silver Lake and Google. It is believed that through this IPO, many foreign investors can earn profits by selling their stake and can exit.

Musk’s competition with Starlink and focus on AI

Jio is no longer just a telecom company, but it is also expanding rapidly in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital services. The company has partnered with Nvidia to develop AI infrastructure. Jio’s direct competition in the market is going to be with Elon Musk’s Starlink, which is going to start satellite internet service in India soon.
