Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday vowed to continue the INDIA bloc’s campaign against the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying those responsible for allegedly undermining the Constitution and the democratic process would be brought to justice.

Speaking after a high-tea meeting with INDIA bloc leaders at his residence, Gandhi said the Opposition remained united and would challenge the government’s decision to prevent protests at Jantar Mantar.

“We are all standing together as one. One method of expression was Jantar Mantar, but now the government has decided not to allow it. We will challenge this,” Gandhi said.

He also issued a warning to Prime Minister Narendra ModiUnion Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, saying the “net is closing around them”.

‘Those Responsible Will Be Brought To Justice’

Gandhi said the Opposition’s campaign was not about political parties but about the people of India and the future of the country’s democracy.

“Yesterday, you saw an expression not of the political party standing here, but an expression of the people of India,” he said, thanking the people of Delhi and the country for supporting the protest.
