Team India Squad for Sri lanka Series: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian team for the Sri Lanka tour to be held this month. On this tour, the Indian team has to play a 3-match ODI and a 3-match T20 series. The Indian selectors have surprised the fans with their decisions. They have handed over the captaincy of the T20 team to Suryakumar Yadav.
Let us tell you that Rohit Sharma has already retired from T20 International. However, he is still the captain in ODIs. The selectors have excluded Abhishek Sharma, Rituraj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar from the T20 team selected for the Sri Lanka tour.
Abhishek was dropped despite scoring a century
Among these, the names of Abhishek and Rituraj have surprised the most. Abhishek recently made his debut on the Zimbabwe tour and scored a century in the second match itself. While Rituraj also performed brilliantly. In such a situation, the fans are not able to digest the exclusion of both, especially Abhishek.
In the second T20 match against Zimbabwe, Abhishek played a fiery innings of 100 runs in 47 balls. Shubman Gill took over the captaincy in this series. However, he has also benefited a lot on this Sri Lanka tour. The selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar has given Gill the vice-captaincy in both the series against Sri Lanka.
Parag got bumper benefit despite poor performance
Apart from this, Riyan Parag has also benefited greatly from the Zimbabwe tour. He has been selected in the Indian team for the T20 as well as the ODI series. The most surprising thing is that Parag had performed poorly on the Zimbabwe tour. He scored 2 and 22 runs in 2 innings of 3 matches. But he has been selected ahead of Abhishek and Rituraj.
KL Rahul and Shreyas also return to ODI
Shubman Gill has been given the vice-captaincy in both ODI and T20 series. That means Hardik Pandya has also been removed from the vice-captaincy. While he was earlier in the race for captaincy in T20. Apart from this, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has returned to the ODI team. Sanju Samson has been selected in T20. While KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have returned in ODI. Fast bowler Harshit Rana has got a chance in ODI.
