After this cyber attack, Tata Electronics has received a call-message for ransom.

Data of Tata Group company Tata Electronics has been leaked on the dark web. In this cyber attack, hackers have leaked more than 2 lakh secret files of the company on the dark web.

These include component designs, specification papers and secret documents of Tata’s two biggest clients – Apple and Tesla.

However, Tata Electronics has clarified that this incident has not affected their business operations and all work is going on normally.

Apple’s cyber security team is also investigating

According to Moneycontrol, Apple’s global cyber security team is also investigating and completely analyzing this data breach, so that the main reason behind it can be found out.

Apple has also said that at present there is no threat to business operations from this leak.

World Leaks gang took responsibility, 630 GB data stolen

According to cyber security researchers, a ransomware group named ‘World Leaks’ has posted the data stolen from Tata Electronics’ systems on the dark web.

This group had earlier claimed a cyber attack on Nike’s system. According to the website published on the dark net, this leak includes a total of 630 gigabytes (GB) of data, which contains more than 2 lakh files and folders.

Apple and Tesla’s ‘trade secrets’ leaked

Several Apple folders were found in the leaked database, some of which are named “com.apple.factorydata” and some contain information about material specifications. Apart from this, a 52-page document has also been found, which details the quality inspection standards of the circuit board components of the iPhone.

At the same time, a folder related to Tesla parts was found named “NV36 Chargeport Controller – North America”, which is believed to be from Tesla’s upgraded Model Y SUV. Another Tesla document dated 2023 with ‘Trade Secret’ written on it has been found, this is the assembly document of its revamped Model 3 sedan (Project Highland).

Employees’ passports and emails also on dark web

Indian cyber security researcher Rajshekhar Rajharia, after reviewing these files, said that not only the designs, but also emails of many years, event logs and copies of passports of Tata employees including foreign nationals are present on this data dark web. According to another researcher Rakesh Krishnan, this data has been available on the dark web since at least June 10.

Tata received ransom call message

A source related to the case said that after this cyber attack, Tata Electronics has also received calls or messages for ransom. However, Tata Electronics has refused to say anything on this ransom demand. CERT-In, the cyber agency of the Government of India, has also not commented on this yet.

33 files of Tata’s Hosur plant leaked

In the data leak, 33 files and folders with search terms related to Tata’s main iPhone assembly plant located in Hosur, Tamil Nadu have been found. Tata had informed about this data breach to some employees associated with its iPhone assembly operations only last week.

Let us tell you that Tata Electronics produces about one-third (33%) of Apple’s total iPhone production in India, while the remaining part is produced by Foxconn.

New headache for Apple’s supply chain

This incident is being considered as another new setback for Apple’s supply chain in India. Earlier, Tata is also being investigated over allegations of pollution of agricultural land near a plant manufacturing iPhone parts in Hosur.

As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India an electronics manufacturing powerhouse, Tata is emerging as Apple’s largest and most important partner outside China. Earlier last year, Tata Group’s British company Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) was also cyber attacked due to which production was halted for 6 weeks.
