As heavy rains lash Tamil Nadu, will schools get a rain holiday today? Here’s what the latest update from authorities says
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in 12 districts of Tamil Nadu on October 15, including Chennai, where continuous showers since morning have disrupted schools and daily life.

Heavy Rain is also expected in the hilly regions of Coimbatore district

In districts experiencing heavy rain, the respective District Collectors are expected to declare a holiday for schools and colleges, prioritising the safety and well-being of students and parents. Despite the ongoing downpour in Chennai and Chengalpattu, no such announcement has been made thus far.

According to the forecast, the sky over Chennai is expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the day, with moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning likely in some areas. The maximum temperature is predicted to be around 32°C, while the minimum is expected to range between 26°C and 27°C.

Additionally, fishermen have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough weather conditions. The IMD has warned of strong winds with speeds ranging from 35 to 45 km/h, occasionally gusting up to 55 km/h, particularly over the southern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, the Kumari Sea region, coastal Kerala, adjoining parts of the southeastern Arabian Sea, and the Lakshadweep-Maldives region.
