The Tamil Nadu government is expected to release the RTE Admissions 2025 notification today, October 6, 2025. This comes after the Government of India released the State’s share of RTE reimbursement funds, following directions from the Madras High Court and subsequent proceedings before the Supreme Court of India. Once the detailed notification is released, the online application process for admission in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 2025-26 academic session is expected to tentatively begin from October 9, 2025. Parents and guardians can then submit applications for their children to secure a seat under the RTE quota. (Representational Image)
Following the notification, schools are required to update the total number of seats already filled in entry-level classes by October 7. On the next day, October 8, schools will identify 25% of seats specifically reserved under the RTE quota and make this information visible through the school login portal. From October 9, parents must upload the details of all eligible children, including Aadhaar, date of birth, address, income and community certificates, along with the Parent Declaration under G.O. No. 66 dated April 7, 2017. This step ensures that only eligible children are considered for admission under the RTE Act. (Representational Image/Getty)
On October 10 and 13, schools will display the list of eligible and ineligible applicants on their notice boards, mentioning reasons for rejection wherever applicable. The final list of eligible children will be published on October 14. If fewer than 25% of seats are filled, schools will tag eligible children under the RTE quota in the EMIS portal by October 15. In cases where applications exceed the 25% quota, a transparent random selection process will be conducted on October 16, and selected children will be tagged in the EMIS portal on October 17. Priority admission will be given to children who are orphans, HIV-affected or infected, transgender, differently-abled, or children of scavengers. Schools are prohibited from collecting any tuition or admission fees from RTE-eligible children, and any fees already collected must be refunded within seven working days, with confirmation from both the school and the parent.
