Following the instructions of the Central Government, big companies like Swiggy and Zepto have also started removing the claim of ‘delivery in 10 minutes’ from their platforms. The government has given strict instructions to these companies not to make such claims regarding delivery time which will put pressure on the delivery partners. Earlier, Blinkit had also removed the ’10 minutes’ tag from its advertisements and app.

Recently, Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya held a high-level meeting with representatives of quick commerce companies. In this meeting, the safety of delivery partners and their working methods were discussed.

The government believes that the promise of delivering goods within 10 minutes increases mental pressure on riders, which increases the risk of road accidents. The ministry clearly said that companies will have to remove time restrictions from their branding.

Companies changed their slogans and advertisements

After the strictness of the government, companies have started making changes on their apps and social media handles. Blinkit has changed its tagline ‘10,000+ products in 10 minutes’ to ‘30,000+ products at your doorstep’.

Similarly, Swiggy and Zepto have also removed the 10-minute promise from their platforms and focused on convenience and variety of service.

The 10-15 minute delivery service was being criticized on social media and many forums.

The 10-15 minute delivery service was being criticized on social media and many forums.

There was concern over the safety of riders and fast driving.

The biggest criticism of the quick commerce sector has been that in order to meet the 10-minute deadline, riders drive fast and violate traffic rules.

According to statistics, due to this competition, reports of tension and accidents among the riders were increasing. Although the companies have been claiming that they do not show time limits to the riders, the impact of the advertisement was different on the ground.

What will be the impact on the business model?

Experts say that removing the 10-minute claim from the advertisement does not mean that delivery will be late. Companies will still deliver goods faster with the help of their dark stores (local warehouses).

According to Karan Taurani of Elara Capital, this change is limited to branding and appearance only, there will be no major change in the business model. Companies will now make ‘convenience’ and ‘more products’ their strength instead of speed.

The strike of gig workers had attracted the attention of the government

Let us tell you that at the beginning of the new year, delivery partners had gone on strike in many parts of the country. Their main demands were better wages, security and improvement in working hours.

Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha had also raised this issue in Parliament and demanded social security and respectable wages for gig workers. Only after this the government intervened in this matter.
