A woman engineering student died, and 14 others sustained injuries after a lighting arch collapsed during a Dandiya event at MVSR College in Nadargul, Rangareddy district of Telangana, on Saturday.

The incident occurred after the structure, on which lighting arrangements had been made, reportedly fell due to wind.

According to the police, the female student suffered serious injuries in the incident. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment but died while undergoing treatment, news agency PTI reported.

ANI, quoting a police official, earlier reported that one girl died and 12 others were injured after a stand collapsed during the Dandiya event at the college. The injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Visuals from the college, shared by ANI, showed the site of the incident.

The collapse occurred at MVSR College in Nadargul, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Adibatla police station in Rangareddy district.

PTI reported that 14 people sustained injuries in the incident. Police said the injured were out of danger.

ANI reported that police personnel shifted the injured to the hospital for medical care. A large police force was also deployed at the college following the incident.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed sadness over the student’s death and the injuries suffered by others in the incident, PTI reported, citing a government release.

The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and directed officials to ensure that the injured received advanced medical care.

He also instructed officials to identify those responsible for the accident and take stringent action against them, according to the government release cited by PTI.
