Stock Market Live Updates: Benchmark indices extended their gains in early trade on Wednesday, led by strong buying in IT stocks.
At 9:17 AM, the Nifty50 was up 0.54% or 129.85 points at 23,714.05, while the Sensex advanced 0.61% or 463.82 points to 76,534.66.
Among the top gainers on the Nifty50 were InterGlobe Aviation, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, and Shriram Finance.
The broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty MidCap index rising 0.97% and the Nifty SmallCap index gaining 1%.
On the sectoral front, Nifty IT and Nifty Auto led the gains, while Nifty Metal declined 0.83%, emerging as the top laggard in early trade.
Global cues
The US Federal Reserve is widely expected to hold interest rates steady, but investors will closely watch policymakers’ commentary for cues on the future rate trajectory.
Asia-Pacific markets opened higher on Wednesday, tracking positive global sentiment. Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged over 2% after data showed exports grew 4.2% year-on-year in February.
South Korea’s Kospi jumped nearly 4%, leading regional gains. Meanwhile, China’s CSI 300 edged up 0.06% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.03%.
On Wall Street, US markets ended modestly higher overnight. The S&P 500 rose 0.25%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.10%, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.47%.
Commodities
In the Asian session, Brent crude slipped up to 1.5% to $102.14 per barrel, after data from the American Petroleum Institute indicated a rise in US crude inventories last week.
Meanwhile, gold and silver futures declined, falling 0.14% and 1.06%, respectively.
