The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the tentative vacancy details for the Combined Graduate Level Examination (SSC CGL) 2026, with a total of 10,731 posts proposed across various central government ministries and departments.

The vacancies include posts such as Central Excise Inspector, Income Tax Inspector, Tax Assistant and Assistant Section Officer, among others. However, SSC has clarified that these are tentative vacancies and the final number of posts may change during the recruitment process.

SSC CGL 2026: 10,731 tentative vacancies

Of the 10,731 tentative vacancies, 4,412 are for the unreserved category, 1,715 for Scheduled Castes (SC), 804 for Scheduled Tribes (ST), 2,772 for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and 1,028 for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

Through SSC CGL, graduate-level candidates can be recruited to various Group B and Group C posts across central government departments and ministries.

Central Excise Inspector has highest number of vacancies

Among the posts listed in the tentative vacancy details, Central Excise Inspector under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has the highest number of vacancies, with 2,366 posts proposed.

The other major vacancies include 1,400 Tax Assistant posts, including 841 in CBIC; 668 Assistant Section Officer posts in the Central Secretariat Service; and 595 Income Tax Inspector posts.

The tentative vacancies also include several posts under the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

These include 504 Assistant Accounts Officer posts in the State Cadre, 504 Assistant Audit Officer posts in the State Cadre and 513 Assistant Audit Officer posts in the Central Cadre.

The recruitment therefore covers a range of roles in taxation, administration, accounts and audit across central government departments.
