Zoho company founder and CEO Sridhar Vembu has been ordered by a California court to deposit a bond of Rs 15 thousand crore in the divorce case. The special thing is that it is being said to be the most expensive divorce in India. Vembu’s wife Pramila Srinivasan is an educationist and business person in America. Both also have a son.
How did the divorce case start? After studying at IIT-Madras, Sridhar Vembu went to America in 1989 and did PhD from Princeton. In 1993, he married Pramila Srinivasan. Launched AdventNet in 1996 (later Zoho in 2009).
Both lived in California for about 30 years. He has a 26 year old son. In 2019, Vembu returned to India and is running the company from his native village Mathalamparai in Tamil Nadu. In 2021, he filed a divorce petition.
Sridhar Vembu married Pramila Srinivasan in 1993.
What are the wife’s allegations? Pramila claimed in the court that Vembu had abandoned her and her son. He alleged that Vembu transferred Zoho’s shares and properties to India in a complex transaction, without his knowledge or consent.
He also said that the majority of the company’s shares are held by sister Radha Vembu (47.8%) and brother Sekar (35.2%), while Vembu is left with only 5% ($225 million).
