Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said his party’s success in the recent Narmada district panchayat elections in Gujarat signals a growing public desire for political change in the state.

Addressing a roadshow in Rajpipla in the tribal-dominated Narmada district, Kejriwal said the party has emerged as a credible alternative to both the BJP and Congress ahead of the 2027 Gujarat Assembly elections. He was accompanied by AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava, newly elected district president Anjana Vasava and vice president Sangeeta Tadvi, PTI reported.

AAP Wins Narmada District Panchayat, 12 Taluka Bodies

The AAP secured control of the Narmada district panchayat and won 12 taluka panchayats in the local body elections held last month — a first for the party in Gujarat.

“For the past 75 years, whether at the state or district level, only Congress or the BJP have formed governments in Gujarat. People used to say that a third party had no place here. However, for the first time, the people of Gujarat have elected AAP to power,” Kejriwal said.

“The spark ignited by the people of this tribal region in Narmada district will now spread across Gujarat, and in 2027, the AAP will form a government,” he added.

Kejriwal Targets BJP, Congress

Calling the victory “nothing short of a revolution,” Kejriwal accused the BJP and Congress of working together. “The BJP and the Congress act in collusion,” he said.

Referring to Vasava, who is currently out on bail in an attempt-to-murder case, Kejriwal said, “Only the AAP is fighting for the people. When it comes to facing imprisonment, Congress leaders never go to jail. On the contrary, Chaitar Vasava… faces jail.”

AAP leader Manoj Sorsthiya said more than 600 AAP candidates were elected in the local polls, marking the rise of a third political force in Gujarat.
