The creators of the hit animated satire South Park have jokingly announced that the show is changing its name to “South America”, taking a swipe at US President Donald Trump’s push to rename prominent geographical landmarks.
The Emmy-winning series made the announcement on Tuesday through its official X account, after Trump’s administration moved to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario as Lake America.
“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA,” the post said.

The reference was to Apple and Google changing the names of the bodies of water on their mapping services for users in the US following the administration’s orders.
A jab at Trump and Paramount
The show also used the announcement to poke fun at its parent company Paramount, following its deal with Skydance.
“We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation,” the post said.
The announcement came after South Park won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Programme. Its 29th season is set to premiere on Comedy Central on September 16, with new episodes also available on Paramount+ in several markets.
South Park keeps targeting Trump
Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park is known for its crude humour and sharp takes on politics, culture and public figures.
The series has stepped up its mockery of Trump since his return to the White House. The president has frequently appeared as a caricature in the show, including storylines involving a bizarre marriage to Satan.
The latest joke follows a wider series of Trump-backed naming changes and proposals. Trump has also previously floated changing the name of the US state of New Mexico to “New America”.
