A passenger onboard an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Kolkata allegedly slapped a fellow passenger mid-air on Friday.
The incident took place on flight 6E138, operated by an Airbus A321 aircraft. A video of the altercation has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism, with many users condemning the act and calling for stricter action against the perpetrator.
The reason behind the assault remains unclear. The video shows a passenger seated near the aisle suddenly reaching out and slapping another passenger who was standing nearby.

The same crew member is heard telling the seated passenger, “Don’t do, don’t do,” while another male passenger is heard questioning the attacker’s actions, asking, “Even if there was a problem, why did you have to slap him?”
The same passenger is also heard saying that the man who was slapped was having a panic attack, and telling the attacker that he had no right to lay a hand on him.
According to the source, after the aircraft landed in Kolkata, the man who slapped the passenger was handed over to the airport security team. He has also been declared an “unruly passenger” by IndiGo, although the airline has not issued an official statement about the incident so far, news agency PTI reported.
It remains unclear whether the altercation happened while the plane was preparing for takeoff or during the flight itself. The identity of the attacker and the reason for the incident have not yet been confirmed. The number of passengers onboard at the time is also not known.
