Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal’s fiancée, Siya Goyal, had allegedly told him she did not want to marry him, but he refused to call off their engagement, prompting her to hatch a conspiracy to kill him with the help of her lover, Chetan Chaudhary, investigators have claimed, The Times Of India reported.

The fresh details emerged during custodial interrogation, where Goyal and Chaudhary initially blamed each other for masterminding the murder before allegedly admitting to their respective roles in the crime.

Did Not Wish To Marry Ketan: Siya

According to a Pune Rural Police officer, Goyal told investigators that she had made it clear to Agarwal that she did not wish to marry him. However, when he refused to end the engagement, she hatched a plan to eliminate him.

According to police officials, Goyal and Chaudhary initially tried to shift the blame onto each other, a common pattern during interrogation. “Siya eventually admitted that she hatched the conspiracy, and Chetan was also involved in the planning,” the official said.

“Investigations so far indicate that the entire conspiracy was hatched by Goyal,” the officer said.

Police said the couple chose murder over eloping because they feared running away together would bring disrepute to their families. “They said eloping would have brought disrepute to their families,” the official said.

Siya Gave Signal, Her Lover Pushed Ketan

Investigators have reconstructed the sequence of events leading up to the killing. According to police, Goyal and Chaudhary allegedly planned that she would give a pre-decided signal by sitting down, after which Chaudhary would push an unsuspecting Agarwal into the gorge.

As per the plan, Siya was to sit down, following which Chetan would come up and push Ketan. They executed the plan exactly, a police official said.

“They have told us what happened and how it happened. Ketan had no idea what was coming. He was pushed into the gorge before he realised anything,” the official said.

What We Know So Far

Police said the accused had made multiple attempts before finally succeeding. On May 31, Goyal allegedly accompanied Agarwal to Lohagad Fort and identified a secluded spot near the Vinchu Kata ridge where the crime could be carried out. Another trip planned for June 4 was aborted after Agarwal’s mother objected.

On June 14, Goyal allegedly attempted to push Agarwal off a cliff, but he survived after grabbing onto a bush. Investigators claim she convinced him the incident was accidental, regained his trust and returned with him to the fort four days later.

On June 18, Goyal and Chaudhary allegedly executed their plan, pushing the 25-year-old into a 350-foot-deep gorge at Lohagad Fort in Maharashtra’s Maval taluka, killing him.

Police also claimed Goyal discarded Agarwal’s passport on June 6 as part of the preparations for the crime. Investigators have recorded the statement of an employee at Chaudhary’s store, who said the accused left his own mobile phone behind on the day of the murder and carried the employee’s phone to the fort.

CCTV footage from a Pune café allegedly shows Goyal and Chaudhary meeting several times between May 31 and June 4. Police are questioning the pair about those meetings as part of the ongoing investigation.

Agarwal’s death was initially registered as an accidental fall. However, the case took a dramatic turn after investigators uncovered evidence of a murder conspiracy and arrested Goyal and Chaudhary.

As part of the ongoing probe, Pune Rural Police on Thursday took Goyal to Lohagad Fort to reconstruct the crime, while a forensic team visited the spot to collect further evidence.
