Six workers were killed, and several others were injured in a blast reported at a sponge iron factory on Thursday in the Balodabazar-Bhatapara district of Chhattisgarh, news agency PTI reported.
The incident occurred at the Real Ispat Sponge Iron Factory located in Bakulahi village in the Bhatapara rural area, a police official said, as quoted by the outlet.
Meanwhile, dense plumes of smoke were seen billowing out of the blast site, triggering panic among residents and raising questions over industrial safety standards in the state.
Upon receiving information, police and senior administrative officials rushed to the spot and initiated relief and rescue operations, the police official added.
