YouTube has released a new feature of ‘Time Management’. Through this, you can now set the time limit for watching shorts on the app to ‘zero’. This will completely remove the shorts feed. Its purpose is to help in managing screen time better.
YouTube introduced a timer feature for Shorts in October last year, with a minimum time limit of 15 minutes. In January, expanding this feature, it was announced to bring the option of ‘Zero Minutes’ to give parents control over children’s screen time.
Feature rollout for all accounts
According to YouTube spokesperson Mackenzie Spiller, this option is now live for all parents and is gradually being rolled out for general adult accounts as well.
Shorts suggestions will also be removed from the home screen
As soon as you select ‘Zero Minutes’ limit, no videos will be visible on the Shorts tab. There will only be a notification that you have reached your ‘Shorts Feed Limit’. After setting the limit, shorts suggestions will also be removed from the home screen.
Will help in getting rid of the addiction of binge watching and reels.
There are crores of YouTube users in India and the craze for shorts is very high. In such a situation, this feature will prove to be very helpful for those people who want to give up the habit of doom scrolling i.e. unwanted scrolling. This is being considered a big step for YouTube towards digital well-being.
- Focus and Productivity: Students or professionals who come to YouTube only to watch useful content or long tutorials will no longer be distracted by suggestions for shorts.
- Safe for children: Parents will now be able to completely block shorts on kids’ phones, allowing them to only watch allowed content.
- Better User Experience: The home screen of the app will become cleaner. If you don’t like shorts, you’re no longer forced to see video thumbnails in your feed.
Follow 3 steps to turn on the feature
- Go to the Settings of the YouTube app and select the Time Management option.
- Now toggle on ‘Shorts Feed Limit’.
- Go to Time Range and select ‘0 minutes’.
