Shoddy Civic Work Kills 32-Year-Old After Bike Falls Into Uncovered Pit In Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 32-year-old biker died after his motorcycle plunged into an uncovered pit dug for a water pipeline on a road in Nelamangala, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, with locals blaming negligent civic work for the fatal accident.

The victim, identified as Tabrez, met with the accident near a Bajaj showroom in Subhash Nagar on December 17. According to residents, a pit dug on the road for laying a water pipeline had been left improperly closed and unmarked, posing a serious hazard to commuters.

Eyewitnesses said the biker was riding his bike when its front wheel slipped into the pit. In a bid to regain control, he applied sudden brakes but lost balance, causing the motorcycle to skid and crash onto the road. He fell heavily and sustained severe injuries.

Tabrez was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and remained under treatment for several days. However, doctors were unable to save him, and he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Residents of the area alleged that the accident was a direct result of careless and shoddy civic work, claiming the pit had been left uncovered for days without barricades, warning signs or reflective markers. They said repeated complaints about unsafe road conditions had gone unaddressed.
