Shiv Sena UBT Crisis Live Updates: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray is facing a fresh political challenge as six of his party’s nine Lok Sabha MPs formally joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Monday. Shinde, accompanied by all rebel MPs, addressed a press conference today where the big announcement was made.
The rebel MPs’ crossover has given the rebel bloc the two-thirds strength required under the anti-defection law. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) held a meeting with its party MLAs and MLCs at Shivalay in Mumbai’s Nariman Point on the first day of the Maharashtra Legislature’s monsoon session. The meeting was being seen as an attempt by Thackeray to prevent further defections and reassure party legislators.
Earlier, two dissident MPs, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar and Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar, had already confirmed their decision to switch sides, while leaders from the ruling Mahayuti alliance on Sunday had hinted that more political developments could follow.
