Schools across Odisha will reopen on June 18 following the Raja festival, with the state government confirming that classes will resume as scheduled after the summer vacation. School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond announced that all government and private schools in the state will reopen on the designated date, bringing an end to speculation over a possible extension of the holiday period.
The minister said that prevailing weather conditions are currently favourable and do not pose any major obstacle to the reopening of schools. As a result, the government has decided to proceed with the earlier plan to resume academic activities from June 18.
However, Minister Nityananda Gond made it clear that the government will continue to monitor the situation. If temperatures rise abnormally or weather conditions are likely to affect the health and safety of students, the authorities may review the decision and take appropriate measures.
The state government had earlier extended school holidays due to the intense summer heat and prevailing heatwave conditions. With the latest announcement, uncertainty surrounding the reopening of educational institutions has been removed.
Students are now expected to return to regular classroom teaching from June 18. Meanwhile, school authorities have been advised to ensure adequate arrangements for safe drinking water, maintain cleanliness on campus and take necessary precautions to safeguard the well-being of students during the summer season.
