Mohan Bhagwat is on a tour of 3 countries.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday began his UK tour with a visit to temples and gurudwaras in London. Bhagwat will meet religious leaders, academicians, researchers and other prominent people in Britain.
Rohit Ambekar, convenor of Integral UK, the organization coordinating the UK tour, said that here Bhagwat will share the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ i.e. the whole world is one family.
The London event takes forward the message given by Bhagwat during his visit to the US and Canada. This is part of a three-country outreach program linked to the centenary of the RSS.
However, 20 civil society organizations of Britain have written a letter to London Mayor Sadiq Khan demanding boycott of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) programs.
Bhagwat reached Swaminarayan Temple-British Isles Gurudwara
As part of inter-religious dialogue, Bhagwat has visited Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Willesden and Khalsa Jatha British Isles Gurudwara. He also has to visit a Jain temple in London.
The main event of the Britain tour will take place on Sunday. In this, a welcome ceremony of community leaders and ‘Civilization Dialogue’ has been organized on the theme of ‘Celebration of Oneness’.
This program has been started by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) UK, a Hindu social and cultural organization established in Britain in 1966. It is supported by Integral UK. More than 310 community organizations and associations from across the UK are expected to take part, according to spokespeople.
Round table meeting and met NRIs
Bhagwat reached London on Wednesday. On Thursday he started the program with ‘Closed Door Round Table Meeting’. After this, there was a big meeting of prominent people of the NRI community associated with business and politics.
Sunil Ambekar said that the people of Britain are very interested in understanding RSS. He said that Bhagwat spoke on all the issues raised by the people.
According to him, the event was attended by British citizens of Indian origin along with British leaders, people associated with Parliament, businessmen, millionaires and billionaires and people associated with FTSE 100 companies and other corporates.
However, the spokesperson refused to give further details about the people involved in the programme. He said that the program was organized in a confidential manner, so that the discussion could take place openly.
RSS’s response to concerns raised on Bhagwat’s visit
Some civil society groups and MPs in Britain have expressed concern about Bhagwat’s visit. On this, Sunil Ambekar said, “We are here for peace, integration and unity. Therefore, we are ready to talk to everyone. There can be different voices in a democracy. It is normal for such voices to be raised.”
He said that there are many misconceptions about RSS because there is a lack of basic understanding. According to him, “India is not a political concept of a nation-state. It is a cultural concept.”
Sunil Ambekar said that Hindutva is not a static concept. It involves respect for all religions and all religious traditions and belief in truth. “This is Hindutva, this is India. I think this tour will help in clearing these thoughts,” he said.
