Roger Federer will return to the US Open stage this summer, with the Swiss legend confirmed for a special exhibition event at Arthur Ashe Stadium on August 25. The evening, titled “Roger Federer: An Icon Returns to New York,” will reunite the 44-year-old with some of the biggest names in tennis, including longtime rival Andy Roddick and former champions Andre Agassi and John McEnroe.

The exhibition will be Federer’s first appearance at Flushing Meadows since 2019, when he reached the quarter-finals. His legacy at the tournament remains unmatched in one regard: he is the only player — male or female — to win five consecutive US Open singles titles, dominating the event from 2004 through 2008 as part of his remarkable haul of 20 Grand Slam singles crowns.

The celebration comes just days before Roger Federer is formally inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, on August 29. Organisers have also hinted at additional celebrity guests and special attractions for the evening, inside the tournament’s iconic main stadium.

‘One Of The Most Special’

Reflecting on his return to New York, Federer spoke warmly about the significance the tournament holds in his career.

“The US Open has always been one of the most special tournaments for me,” Federer said. “So many unforgettable moments of my career happened in New York, and Arthur Ashe Stadium is a place that means a great deal to me.

“I’ve missed being part of that atmosphere and feeling the incredible energy that the fans bring every year. To return to Arthur Ashe and share the evening with Andy, Andre and John makes it even more meaningful.

“I’m looking forward to celebrating those memories, seeing the fans again, and enjoying a very special night together.”

The USTA also welcomed Federer’s return, with chairman Brian Vahaly praising the Swiss great’s lasting impact on the sport and describing the event as a unique opportunity for fans to celebrate one of tennis’ most influential champions and his enduring connection with the US Open.
