Amid the ongoing controversy over the entry of satellite internet service ‘Starlink’ in India, Reliance Industries on Friday said that it is not afraid of competition. The company posted on X that the real competition is to find out who is providing the best service.
The company issued this statement after the allegations made by Elon Musk in which he claimed that Indian telecom companies were blocking the way for Starlink.

Like Indian companies, we have also grown in an environment where new thinking and investment are welcomed – whether from within the country or from abroad. But all this happens according to rules and laws. Government rules are the same for everyone, whether the company is Indian or foreign. Jio Satellite has also not yet received full approval from the government and they are also waiting for their turn.
We welcome new companies like Starlink. When Jio was started in 2016, it did not have a single customer and many companies were already present in the telecom market. Nevertheless, in 10 years, Jio won the trust of more than 53 crore customers and provided the cheapest data and best service to the country. Be it Jio or Starlink, every company has to follow the laws and rules of India.

Musk vs Ambani… understand the whole controversy
For the last few days, Elon Musk has been expressing his displeasure over the delay in the launch of Starlink in India. He is blaming Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani for this delay and is continuously posting against him on social media.
Recently, in one of his posts, Musk took a jibe at Mukesh Ambani and wrote him ‘Prime Minister Ambani’. In this post he had called Ambani the real boss of India.
His argument was that Starlink can provide connectivity to areas without internet in India. This will provide education to underprivileged children in remote areas and access to the global market to small businessmen.

After this post of Musk, some people said that India has the cheapest and fastest internet in the world. Here, 60GB data is available for just ₹ 300-400 per month, which works well even in remote villages. In such a situation, it is reasonable to raise the question that when Starlink charges around ₹ 2,200 per month in other countries, then who will buy it in India.
Responding to this argument, Musk said that on one hand he claims that Starlink will not be able to compete with Jio’s cheap plans in India. On the other hand, they also say that competition will increase with the arrival of Starlink. These two things cannot be true together.
The truth is that increasing competition in the market always benefits common customers. With the arrival of Starlink, the profits of Ambani’s company may decrease slightly, but his business will not stop. Obviously, if Starlink is too expensive in India then no one will buy it, so SpaceX will have to keep its prices cheap to survive here.
Government’s answer- Monopoly will not be allowed in India
In ‘India Mobile Congress 2026’, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made the government’s stand clear. He said that monopoly will not be allowed in any sector in India. He told that three satellite internet companies have got licenses in the country.
1. Reliance Jio Satcom
2. Bharti Airtel Supported Eutelsat OneWeb
3. Elon Musk’s Starlink
However, the government also clarified that the security clearance of all these companies that have received licenses is still pending. Apart from this, the pricing framework of satellite spectrum is also being decided. These services can be started in India only after all the necessary conditions are fulfilled.
Starlink equipment found in drugs smuggling in Andaman and violence in Manipur
In 2024, Indian agencies recovered Starlink equipment during an investigation into drug smuggling in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and during an army operation in Manipur.
Elon Musk had then said that Starlink’s service was never active in India. The devices found could not have used Starlink’s satellite network.
The Starlink kit consists of a Starlink dish, a Wi-Fi router, power supply cables, and a mounting tripod. For high-speed internet, the dish is kept under the open sky. Starlink’s app is available on iOS and Android, which takes care of everything from setup to monitoring.

Starlink provides internet from satellites in low earth orbit.
Starlink provides internet service by deploying its satellites in low earth orbit. Through this, internet is available even in those remote areas where there is no mobile network or broadband. The company is trying to launch its services in India from 2021 itself.
