Book release ceremony
Tankasale shared the inspiration behind his journey and book writing on the occasion. He said that this book is the essence of his 60 years of banking experience, which he wants to give back to the society. The purpose of the book is to provide guidance to young bankers, students wishing to enter the banking sector and those interested in banking history.
The book was translated by Satish Mukte, in which Jayashree Pathak and his daughter gave significant support. The Marathi version was translated by Rajiv Joshi and Sunil Chauhan, which was released on 30 April. Sharad Kumar, former director of BNP Paribas Malaysia, performed the book and underlined its importance. He described it as a workbook for young bankers and a valuable document for banking historians.

Chief guest Rajneesh Karnataka congratulated Tankasale for his contribution and said that this book will establish new dimensions in the banking sector. He said that Bank of India had bought 500 copies of the English version of the book, which were distributed among senior officials. The book is written in simple language, which makes it useful for all level readers.
Ketan Saiya in his address emphasized the need for cooperation between banking and chartered accountancy. He expressed pride in supporting the event on behalf of ICAI and appealed for such collaborative efforts in future.
Panel discussion: contemporary issues of banking
A panel discussion was also held at the ceremony, including T. Lalita (former Managing Director, Dhanalakshmi Bank), Mohit Kodnani (General Manager, IT, Central Bank of India), Sumit Srivastava (General Manager, Casa, Union Bank of India) and Sharad Kumar. In the discussion, topics such as banking compliance, digital inclusion and challenges of raising Casa (current and savings account) were intensively discussed.
- T. Lalita Emphasizing the importance of banking compliance, it said that following rules like anti-laundering (AML) and KYC/KYB is necessary at all levels. He gave examples of non-transportation of some recent banks, which led to serious consequences.
- Fascinated codnani Highlight the impact of AI-based banking and stated that it is playing an important role in improving customer experience. He gave examples of the use of AI in call centers, risk management, and grievance redressal.
- Sumit Srivastava Discussed the challenges of raising casa and said that due to high interest rates, customers are shifting from savings accounts towards fixed deposits. He emphasized customer engagement and product division strategies.
- Mohan Tankasale Emphasized the need for cooperation between Fintech and banks, describing it as a supplementary relationship rather than competition. He underlined the success of Jam Trinity (Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, mobile) for digital inclusion and financial inclusion.
The role of a library release
Dhanashree Dhav, representative of Granthi Prakashan, shared her views, saying that her organization has contributed significantly in promoting Marathi literature and culture in the last 50 years. Recently, Granali’s Golden Jubilee celebrations were held in Pune. He described the opportunity to publish this book as a matter of pride and appealed to banks to participate in literary and cultural events.

Mohan Tanksale started his career as a clerk at the Central Bank of India at the age of 19. He worked as Chairman and Managing Director of Union Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, and then Central Bank of India. He is currently strategic advisor to Swift India and several Fintech companies. His book consists of his personal experiences as well as the story of development of Indian banking.
Tankasale reiterated his commitment to give back the society in his address. He said, “The opportunities I got was possible with the grace of God and the support of my colleagues. This book is an attempt to bring my experiences to the younger generation.”
The price of this book is ₹ 350, but was available in the event at a discounted price of ₹ 200. At the end of the ceremony, all the guests were invited to enjoy Ganpati’s offerings and tea-breakfast.
